jev-social is an open-source tool that pairs the Jev model (from Typesafe AI) with the socai browser CLI to perform grounded social media research on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. Jev makes sequential decisions about which operation to perform next (search, open a profile, read comments, download media), while socai executes each chosen command in a real Chrome instance and returns the result before Jev makes the next decision.
- Packaged as a Codex plugin and installable via `npx` or the cross-agent Skills CLI
- Each step's choice, confidence, command, and elapsed time are stored for auditability
- Enforces read-only and login-gate boundaries; unsupported or low-confidence decisions are rejected rather than executed
- A recorded Instagram run produced four source-linked records in ~64 seconds
- Runs loopback-only on localhost:8766 and requires an OpenRouter API key with Jev access

"Subcultures are commodified to maintain the status quo. In his influential book Subculture: Meaning and Style, Dick Hebdige explained how capitalism and dominant ideologies do this to dismantle subcultural rebellion, outlining two tactics of doing so: firstly, by converting subcultural symbols (fashion, music, etc) into mass-produced objects, and secondly by dominant groups (eg the media or government) labelling and redefining ‘deviant’ behaviour to make it acceptable enough to be integrated into the mainstream (eg by making something ‘cool’)."
Two scientists, Dr. Miyabe Shields and Dr. Riley Kirk, are leveraging TikTok and Instagram to educate the public on cannabis pharmacology, gathering data from thousands of respondents on their experiences with cannabis.
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, released a web crawler called Bytespider that scrapes online content at a much faster rate than competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. This aggressive scraping is aimed at improving ByteDance's generative AI models.
